As we inch our way closer to 2019, it’s inevitable that we start talking about HTC’s 2019 flagship smartphone. At this point, the details are still sparse, but a new report claims that HTC is already testing the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC which will officially be unveiled sometime in December.
While this news isn’t at all surprising, the fact that HTC is testing the 5G variant of the chip could be significant. Qualcomm is expected to offer the Snapdragon 855 with 4G or 5G integration, allowing manufacturers to save a bit of cash by choosing the 4G option since most global service providers will only begin to deploy their 5G networks in 2019. Simply put, a 5G-ready smartphone in 2019 would be useless for the vast majority of consumers around the globe since the networks to support the faster 5G speeds won’t be ready yet.
That being said, HTC’s rise to fame was directly tied to the rollout of 4G networks — especially in the US. HTC partnered with Sprint, Verizon and AT&T to deliver their first 4G-capable smartphones. HTC’s partnerships with US service providers isn’t what it used to be, but HTC could use the launch of 5G networks as an opportunity to get back in their good graces by delivering a 5G-ready smartphone for them to showcase the new high speeds of their networks.
We should learn more about HTC’s 2019 flagship smartphone in the coming months. What changes do you hope HTC makes in 2019 to reverse its continuing downward spiral?

Things I’d like to see:
An inbuilt projector.
The ability to “flick” pictures, songs and links to another phone in the vicinity.
Wireless charging option. And bring back the front facing speakers and METAL body.
