HTC One X9 to launch in 2016, passes WiFi certification

The HTC One X9 is back in the news cycle again. The handset’s WiFi certification document was recently posted to the web, giving up more concrete evidence that the phone will be showing up soon. The documentation doesn’t reveal any critical details about the phone, but it does show that the MT6630 component on the HTC One X9 supports a, b, g, n and ac connections on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with support for Miracast and Wi-Fi Direct (standard WiFi features found on most HTC phones).

The initial HTC One X9 rumor claimed that the device would feature quite an impressive spec sheet, but those details were debunked by @LlabTooFeR and @evleaks. Instead, the HTC one X9 looks to be a larger variant of the HTC One A9 with a MediaTek processor, a 5.5-inch display and a decently-sized 3,000 mAh battery.

We still don’t have a launch windows for the HTC One X9, but a new Tweet from @LlabTooFeR states that the phone will not be showing up until at least next year. Since the phone’s already going through the certification process, our bet is that HTC will officially unveil the HTC One X9 during CES or shortly after.

  1. It sounds like the successor to the HTC One Max (which I had always thought was a stupid idea for a handset until I got one recently and have fallen in love with it).

    1. Well hi there Harold – fancy meeting you here. 🙂

Big handsets like the HTC One max are easy to mock at first – I was dumbfounded at how gigantic it was when I first tested it – but like you, after I used it for a few days, I really grew to like the phone. In fact, when I switched back to an M8, I thought “Man, this thing is so TINY!”.

Part of what makes the Max great is the bigger battery – I loved not charging it every day – and the big screen makes everything more engaging.
