The newly-announced HTC Desire 820 will most likely be the best mid-range phone you can buy this fall, but that doesn’t mean budget conscious consumers will flock to it. If your buying decision is dictated by how much money you have stashed in your sock drawer, you’re probably looking for a phone that’s cheaper than $400. The price of the HTC Desire 820 hasn’t been revealed yet, but we can guarantee that it’ll be selling for more than the $350 HTC Desire 816. Fortunately, it looks like HTC has a plan to give the budget-conscious consumer a device that has all the flare of the Desire 820 at a price that should be at least 25% lower.
According to the latest rumor, an HTC Desire 820 variant, currently known as the HTC Desire 820x, will sport the same 5.5-inch 720p display, but with downgraded internals. The leaked spec sheet that accompanies the rumor show that the HTC Desire 820x will have a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, 128GB microSD card slot, 5 megapixel front-facing camera and a 13 megapixel main camera. Pricing and release details are non-existent at this point, but based on the specs, we can assume that it’ll be cheaper than the HTC Desire 816 which HTC revealed in February.
