The launch of the HTC One (M8) was accompanied by two new ads featuring Gary Oldman. While the “ask the internet” spots appear to be going over well for those who have seen them, some of us were left wondering what happened to Robert Downey Jr and the multi-year contract he signed with HTC to promote the One. Well… RDJ is back.
He’s not setting sail on a Humongous Tinfoil Catamaran or hanging out at a Hipster Troll Carwash this time around. Instead, HTC is content with Robert Downey Jr looking straight into the camera and telling you that last year’s “Best Smartphone of the Year” (awarded to the 2013 HTC One at Mobile World Congress in February) is the second best smartphone on the market now that the HTC One (M8) has arrived.
“You can tell how serious this is by the fact that I just spoke old English.”
Do you think the new RDJ clip is better than that HTC put together last fall?
Oh God. HTC’s marketing team is so lost
You are an idiot. It’s good
It’s so bad it’s good? Yeah I can see that. Speak for yourself.
yes it soo bad…..I hate it
Then you are stupid it was pretty. All their ads so far this year have been good
Unfortunately he lost something special on the way and it makes me very sad….
Lol. That is really dumb. But I like it, anyway.
I disagree, I love it. And I hated last year’s campaign…
I liked it *shrug*
Love this one. Thought the Humongous Tinfoil Catamaran campaign was a tad goofy, but it was certainly eye-catching. But really, all RDJ HAS to do is look straight into the camera and talk — why surround him with goofy antics when the man looks like that and has a voice like that? All he needs is a stage and a camera and the product. He’s smart and articulate – perfect spokesman for a smartphone. Although the drawback is that the first two times I viewed this, I just looked at his face and didn’t really hear the message — oh, well, guess I’ll have to watch it several more times.
somehow HTC just reached another new level of the worst commercial of all time… still love the phone and RDJ though, not the commercial itself.
