Samsung pays a fine for drawing negative attention towards competitors

A couple of months ago, word got out that Samsung had been responsible for paying people to make comments on the web praising Samsung products and slandering devices made by its competitors and now the manufacturer has officially been fined for these actions.

An investigation led by the FCC finds Samsung guilty of paying a couple of marketing companies in Taiwan to promote Samsung and burn competitors across multiple online forums. The two marketing firms; who no longer do business with Samsung used the web to do the following items among others:

  • Highlight the shortcomings of competitor’s products
  • Disinfect negative new about Samsung products
  • Submit positive reviews about Samsung products

Samsung’s fine is only $340,000 US dollars which probably doesn’t sound like a lot to the electronic giant considering everyone is always talking about how much money Samsung has to budget for commercials and such. This type of marketing is risky and unprofessional to say the least and we are surprised to see a company nestled so high in the rankings of the mobile electronics space make such a low move for personal gain.
