As the Android 4.2.2 update for the HTC One is making its way to devices in Taiwan, HTC has announced that last year’s HTC One S will receive additional Android OS updates. The announcement is disappointing considering that HTC names the HTC One S as one of the few devices in its 2012 lineup which would be updated to Android 4.2 with the latest version of HTC Sense. While the official announcement may not be what HTC One S owners want to hear, rumors regarding this new information have been circulating for several months.
“We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.”
Now that the HTC One S has been officially removed from HTC’s Android 4.2 update list, many will question HTC’s promise to bring the latest version of Android to the HTC One XL (AT&T HTC One). Since internal components of the One XL and One S are nearly identical we’re left wondering why one only one device was dropped from the list. Hopefully HTC will issue some additional details on the situation in the coming days.

FUCK…
I’ve been getting a clear message the last few years, from pretty much all manufacturers: if you want a smaller Android phone, you’re going to be treated like a second-class citizen.
In Asian countries, some One S only use snapdragon s3 CPU (clocked at 1.7GHz) same as the one in Sensation. And HTC was being blamed as they use out dated cpu even in Taiwan. if HTC only provide updates to One S with s4 CPU only, they will probably get into trouble again.
I actually wish they’d update the S4 One S. It makes sense to please some One S users, rather than alienate completely all of them, right?
Regardless, both versions should be capable of running the updates. The Galaxy Ace 3 (1.20 GHz compared to 1.70 GHz of One S C2) is getting Android 4.2.2.
Not only does this piss me off, it also has an affect on 2,100 other One S owners. Just take a look – http://www.change.org/petitions/htc-give-the-one-s-continued-support-like-the-one-x
