HTC and Verizon push out Droid DNA update to fix SIM card detection

Yesterday afternoon, Verizon’s HTC Droid DNA customers started receiving a 32MB update to address the SIM card detection issues which have been causing a bit of frustration for Droid DNA owners. On occasion, handset owners have received error message that there is no SIM card in the phone, followed by a loss of data and voice connectivity.

Verizon’s support documentation for the update features a single line.

“Improvements have been made to SIM card detection.”

We do not know how long it will take Verizon to push the update to all Droid DNA owners, but we expect it’ll roll out in waves over the next week or two. If you happen to notice any other improvements or bug fixes, be sure to leave us a comment below.

  1. The HTC Sensation SIM Free suffers from this after turning on/off with fast boot as well.

  2. My HTC DNA was getting this SIM card error constantly. I took the update and the problem hasn’t even slowed down. The error keeps happening. The only difference is not I get a pop-up saying the SIM card is down. This is of little help. Frustrating!!!

  3. Yeah I got the SIM error then I got an update. Then after the update I looked up what it did and it said fixes the SIM problem. So I’m like alright cool. And then my SIM error Happend again. Its Happend 3 times this pass hour. I’m about done with this phone.

  4. I keep getting a HTCDM not responding, its lagging my phone also trying to see if I can do a update it just freezes…
Another thing I’m having a massive problem with is that if I type something inthings like searches or texts and a word is wrong and what I typed it won’t put the words where I want, it immediately goes to the end or the last word…. So I have to erase the entire thing and type the correct words he that makes sense?

  5. Yeah right my sim ben good since since last ota and i think its going to remove unlocked sim feature. Vzw took unlocking away they will take the global sim away and say it was the problem.

  6. Never had an issue at all with my DNA .. it seems faster overall after last update ….. Remove your SIM card and reseat it all the way in

    1. I don’t have a SIM, so that doesn’t work…

UPDATE: I did the update yeah and now that annoying dcm thing went away but what about the typing issue….or where should I go with that problem….? Its doing it now as I type this UGH!!

  7. Sounds like u got a different phone pretty sure all dnas have a SIM and they seemed to correct some issues with the text input response in this patch its alot snappier as I type now no input lag at all now … Reset all your phone options u may have the word checker off

  8. I have the DNA. Just wanted to set something straight. ALL Verizon 4g phones have SIM cards in them. And they now use them all the time (unlike, for example, the droid 3 which only used the SIM when roaming on a gsm network). And, as you all know, the latest ota update (april ish 2013) is specifically for the SIM card issues with the DNA. If you are still having problems with your SIM post update, take your phone to Verizon. They will try to fix it, and if that dossnt work then they’ll get you a replacement phone.

  9. Bought my DNA in May 2013. No, they do not have external SIM cards. Great phone but recently it sporadically produces the “No Sim Card” icon both when wifi or media is on. Used to clear up when rebooting but now still getting the “No Sim Card” error. Have not yet received update notice. A little hesitant to try based upon reviews of those who have.

  10. A BIT OF FRUSTRATION?!!!! A BIT OF FRUSTRATION???!!!!!! ON OCCASION…? Really???? OMG I can’t WAIT to get rid of this phone! When I’m in the middle of a conversation about my mom’s open heart surgery, I don’t want my call to disconnect! When I’m in the middle of ANY conversation I don’t want my call to disconnect or not be able to make the phone call unless I shut down and restart my phone because “No Sim Card is Detected.” or “Invalid Sim Card” error messages. This phone sux. I will NEVER buy another HTC phone. I’ve had this phone since 12/2012 and am FORCED to keep it until 12/2014 unless I want to shell out a lot of money for another phone, because these “replacement phones” suck as much as the first one I got. Wonder how Verizon would like it if I adjusted my payment to exclude all of the time I’ve wasted trying to get the thing to work or all the time I’ve wasted calling people back only to be disconnected AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN for the same problem. So really? A BIT OF FRUSTRATION? REALLY?!

    1. I’m haveing the exact same problem… Every 30 minutes give or take my HTC DNA just does it’s own thing and says SIM card not detected, but I can’t even restart my phone to get it to come back it never finds the SIM card.

          1. I’m having the same issue as well….after a year of maddening support calls and visits to the store and a new phone and new SIM cards, the update fixed the problem. But in the last month it’s reappeared. Incredibly frustrating. Just tried the tape trick, holding my breath that it will work…and counting the days until December when I can get a phone made by anyone but HTC

      1. I’m having the issue as well…no SIM card….SIM card error…no service….from what I read this issue was supposed to be resolved a year or two ago…

  11. Screw the update, I’ve tried not to update to kitKat, but I’ve got the stupid update icon on full screen….I’d like to opt out thanks

  12. Never had any SIM issues until the update was downloaded……..now I have them all the time!

  13. This isn’t just HTC, nor Verizon. My GS4 thru AT&T has the same issue, as do others, as do iPhones. Do a little research.

  14. I have the Motorola Razr M and I am having the same issue. Took it to verizon and they said the update that recently went on the phone would not have messed with SIM card. They took the card out and cleaned with air but still having same issue. Very frustrating that phone works great, then have an update that messes with everything.

  15. Used to have sim card error every day until i used the scotch tape technique which stopped the “sim card not registered” error but data connection started to drop and had to restart my fone multiple times daily. After latest software update on9/29/2014 , two days later the home/back/recent apps touch buttons stopped working .

    1. Bro, i updated mine today while at school, and instantly my buttons arent working either. Everytime i enter an app, i need to restart phone to exit the app. WTF is this bs
