After countless delays, missed dates and a lot of misinformation, it looks like the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon may finally be getting its Android 4.0 update. The last know release date for the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Thunderbolt was scheduled for the end of August. Unfortunately, August came and went, leaving behind an army of disgruntled Thunderbolt owners who were still running Android 2.3. Since then there have been countless reports of poor customer service from HTC with support reps giving customers the runaround about when the update would be delivered. A few of these reports even claim that Verizon canceled the update since the Android 4.0 experience was deemed “sluggish” and that consumers would be “more satisfied with the Android 2.3 experience on the HTC Thunderbolt.”
However, HTC has managed to deliver new hope on the topic with a tweet which was sent out on December 17th in reply to an inquiry from a loyal HTC owner.
@louie_397: @htcusa ok whats the deal with ics for thunderbolt
@htcuse: @louie_397 ICS will be here soon. Thanks for your continued patience!
No timeline is given, but we doubt the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Thunderbolt will be pushed out before the end of the year. Maybe HTC will wait until January 6th to release the Android 4.0 update to coincide with the two year anniversary of the HTC Thunderbolt’s unveiling at CES back in 2011.
