HTC One X update now available for some users

HTC has announced that they are beginning to push out an OTA update for the HTC One X.  This update should resolve some of the issues reported by users such as poor battery life, an issue with the hardware buttons on Ice Cream Sandwich, instability and overheating.  There are also reports that the update resolves some auto-brightness issues with the phone.

The update is listed as 1.28.401.9 and weighs in around 30MB.  While it shouldn’t overwrite any of your data, I’d advise making a backup copy of any critical information prior to updating the software.  To find out if the update is available for your phone you can go to Settings-About-Software Updates on your phone.

Let us know if you’ve received the update and what improvements you notice on your phone.

  1. Just installed the update. It froze on the installing screen and didn’t seem to progress. Unplugged the phone charger and it contined fine. Seems it tries to charge it to full power before upgrading, but if you have 30% or more power, then you will be fine.
The phone is working fine, everything is still there as it was prior to the upgrade. Now to see if the battery life improves.

  2. Thanks for the update Peter! How many hours were you getting per charge before the update?

  3. @Steve The update is available but I haven’t installed it yet.
I know this question’s not for me, but just for the record, there’s been not one time when this beast of mine has recorded less than 35 hours till now, the highest being around 75 hours.

The only time when it logged around 35 hours was when the Wifi was on all the time, and I was using it for things like browsing, downloading, playing moderate games like angry birds space, and using the camera. Other than that, I’d say that it gives an average of 40 hours per cycle.

@Peter The update clearly mentions that you shouldn’t keep your phone plugged in while updating and that you should have a minimum of 35 % battery remaining 🙂
