Android 2.3 brings HTC features to the stock keyboard

With yesterday’s unveiling of Android 2.3, we noticed that one of the “new” features is something that HTC users have been enjoying for quite some time.  The new Android 2.3 build features an improved keyboard.  It’s always nice to see Google take a few steps forward, but it would be even nicer if they gave credit to those who implemented the ideas before they did.  We encourage you to take a peek at the video below to see what new features Google has equipped their Android keyboard with.

I’m sure most of you will notice that all the features in the video are identical to what HTC pushed out with the HTC Desire and HTC Legend earlier this year.  It’s as if Google simply duplicated the letter layout, long-press, and even the copy/paste functionality from HTC’s keyboard.  Who knows, maybe Google simply stole the ideas or they recognized that HTC got it right and worked out a deal to bake in their keyboard functionality into Gingerbread.  In the end, I guess we’re happy that other Android users can not enjoy (whenever their phones get upgraded to Gingerbread) what HTC users have been using for over six months.
