I was a bit shocked when i first read the title of a recent New York Times article on their site "Microsoft: Expect Fewer Phones With Windows". It’s hard to understand why Microsoft would want to limit the number of handsets on the market, but the article does explain that there are currently 140 different handsets that are for sale running on Windows Mobile. It’s nice to have options when you are looking for a smartphone, but Microsoft thinks that the sheer number of options is making their OS less competative. Todd Peters, the vice president of marketing for the Windows Mobile division is quoted as saying: “I’d rather have fewer devices and be more focused,” he said. That way “we get better integration” between phone and operating system. Todd Peters also hinted that Wicrosoft would have a major announcement at next months Mobile World Conference and how “We’re going to pump more value into the license,”
