HTC and UnderArmour collaborating on smart scale

While the fate of the HTC Grip is still up in the air, the collaboration between HTC and UnderArmour to build a family of connected fitness devices appears to be alive and well. New documents posted on Bluetooth SIG site reveals and HTC-built Bluetooth connected smart scale which is intended to measure weight and body fat.

The UA Scale listing has already been removed from the Bluetooth SIG site, but it didn’t contain any real details concerning the device’s internal specifications or design. When HTC canceled the launch of the HTC Grip back in July, the company promised to deliver a “state-of-the-art” portfolio of health and fitness devices by the end of the year. A smart scale would fit perfectly within the category, but we have our doubts that HTC will be bringing the new device to market before the end of 2015.

If HTC does have a reworked HTC Grip, a new Smart Scale and other fitness-centric gadgets in the works (there’s still that smartwatch rumor floating around), we hope they live up to their “state-of-the-art” promise and deliver a complete ecosystem which HTC and UnderArmour will be proud of and that athletes will see as the must-have fitness tracking system.

  1. If I had to guess, HTC is getting money from Under Armour to build a couple of toys like the Smart Scale, the HTC Grip, probably something to measure basketball shots, Yards actually run on football field, or miles actually run on while playing basketball/football/baseball/etc… Any activity like biking, running, jogging, walking, swimming/etc.

Built in bluetooth and app created for such sports. Medical stuff is probably on the way as well. That would be great if they can do something like that. Something that can measure recovery time, intensity, temperature of person, E.K.G’s , with live heart rate BPM stream, stress levels, perspiration levels, skin temp, P.H. Level, etc… This will be interesting to wait and see what this partnership will bring.
