Skyhook Wireless rolls out new partnerships with Android Developers

Skyhook Wireless has been working hard to make sure Android apps are giving you the best experience possible. Skyhook does not have any apps of its own on the Android Market, but they have partnered with app developers to help integrate their hybrid positioning system that leverages Wi-Fi, GPS and cell towers to help deliver a more precise location for location based apps. A few weeks back, Skyhook Wireless announced their partnership with Sherpa and has since continued to roll out new partnerships with other Android developers. SIM Checker, Aloqa, and TIE your money are the latest apps to take advantage of Skyhook’s hybrid positioning system. The partnership between these developers will allow them to better pinpoint the location of your Android powered phone and in turn help deliver better search results and services to you. Since location based apps seem to be a dime a dozen on the Android Market these days, I’m sure Skyhook Wireless has a long list of developers that they are planning on partnering with.

Be sure to check out a short summery of SIM Checker, Aloqa, and TIE your money after the jump.

SIM Checker is an application that helps recover stolen Android devices. SIM Checker users set a phone number and email address to which SIM Checker will send alerts if a different SIM card is installed in the device. These alerts contain the location of the stolen device. The app was among five other apps nominated for Best Security App in the Android Network Awards last month.

The Aloqa application proactively notifies the user of places, events or friends in close proximity using their preferences and social network relationships. Aloqa users get real time alerts of dynamically changing content around them like movies, concerts, and when Facebook friends are nearby. The beta version of Aloqa is now available in the U.S. and Germany on Android and the Blackberry Curve 8900 and Blackberry Bold 9000, with other platforms launching in the near future.
