August 30 has arrived, which means HTC has just announced its latest smartphone! Let us present to you the HTC u12 life. The name implies that the phone is a cheaper version of the HTC U12 Plus, but the specifications and design don’t really show much of a resemblance to HTC’s 2018 flagship device.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Like the HTC U12 Plus, the U12 life features a notch-less (we never thought that this would be a feature) 6-inch display, a dual-sensor camera on the back, and a variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
However, the phone’s design is dramatically different from that of the HTC U12 Plus. The phone’s back panel is clad with a two-tone acrylic glass, featuring subtle stripes along the lower portion which makes it stand out from HTC’s current lineup and most other smartphones on the market.
The phone is running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, the 18:9 display has a lower resolution FHD+ panel there’s only a 3,600mAh battery packed on the inside of the phone. While those last points may sound a bit disappointing to some, they still add up to a pretty impressive device from HTC when you consider the HTC U12 life’s price. The base model of the HTC U12 life with 4GB of Ram and 64GB of storage will sell for £300 in the UK, but we can’t imagine the 6GB model selling for much more if HTC wants the device to catch the eye of budget consumers.
