The HTC U12 is really the U12+

So, his is something that we really weren’t expecting. According to Evan Blass, HTC will not be selling an HTC U12 this spring. Instead, the company’s flagship smartphone will be called the HTC U12+. Also, the image above is the first real image to leak which gives us a clear look at the front and back of the phone.

All of the rumor’s up to this point regarding the phone still stand. The HTC U12+ will have a 6-inch WQHD+ display, a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of storage, a dual camera on the back with 16MP and 12MP sensors, and a 3,420 mAh battery to keep the thing powered on.

The new details regarding the HTC U12+ also claim that the phone will have dual front-facing 8MP cameras like the HTC U11 Eyes. Also, production of the phone has hit a snag or two, pushing the phone launch back from late April into early May.

As fast as design goes, we are a bit surprised to see the two rear cameras mounted side-by-side. It definitely doesn’t look as stunning as the HTC U11+, but we’re sure the final product will look better than this leaked photo. And keep in mind, there will be a matte-white color option as well.

The fact that HTC is skipping over the U12 moniker and labeling it’s new phone as the U12+ shows that HTC wants to go after the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and other larger devices like the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. While that’s an ambitious goal, the only way HTC will be able to compete with those devices is by offering a better software and camera experience at a lower price and a significant marketing budget.  HTC did that last year with the U11, but it failed to communicate to consumers. If it can get that part of the equation right this time, the HTC U12+ could be fairly successful.

  1. Nooo, this set up of cameras are ugly, vertical is better choice.
    Also a 3400 battery instead of 3930 of u11+ ? Why??

    1. Because it has 4 cameras instead of 2? Is that really so hard to figure out why the battery is smaller? They take more space. Simple. I agree that the back looks ugly compared to perfect back of u11+.

    1. I am comparing U11+ to U12+. They will be probably similar size but U12+ has 4 cameras instead of 2 in U11+. Comparing to P20pro: Huawei is just better at putting bgger batteries into their phones.

  2. a 3400 battery instead of 3930 of u11+ because smaller screen 5.5 inch.

    Super phone

    Cant wait
