Nearly all HTC U12 details revealed in new leak

The details regarding the rumored HTC Imagine just got a whole lot clearer. If you’re not aware, the HTC Imagine is the code name of the upcoming HTC U12 which will likely be unveiled and go on sale sometime in Q2.

According to the latest Tweet from @LlabTooFeR, the HTC U12 should be quite impressive. The phone will sport a 5.99 QHD+ display and will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and will also feature up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. That likely means that the base model will have 4GB of RAM and only 64GB of storage – but that’s pretty much standard these days.

As expected, the HTC U12 will have a duo-camera with 12MP (main) and 16MP (secondary) Sony IMX3xx sensors. What’s not know is the approach HTC will be taking with the duo-camera setup. The higher resolution of the secondary sensor implies that HTC could be leaning toward Huawei’s approach with a larger monochrome secondary sensor. Of course, the HTC U12 could also go the iPhone route and give us a second sensor with 2X optical zoom for a dedicated portrait mode. But our personal favorite when it comes to smartphones with a dual-sensor setup with the ultra-wide angle lens which LG has been championing for a while. It gives users a truly unique perspective, allowing you to capture shots that most other phones could never capture. The front-facing camera is said to sport an 8MP sensor, but it doesn’t look like HTC will be bringing back OIS to the front-facing as it had on the HTC 10.

Other details of the HTC U12 include a 3,420 mAh battery, IP68 dust and water resistance, dual-SIM support on some models, face unlock, Edge Sense 2.0, Android 8.0 with Sense 10 and full treble support which should allow the phone to be updated to newer versions of Android a lot quicker.

What’s not yet clear is what the phone will look like. Since the liquid surface design of last year’s HTC U11 is only a year old, we’re expecting HTC to stick with it as the starting point for the design of the HTC U12. Like the HTC U11+ (which also features an 18:9 aspect-ratio display), expect the HTC U12’s fingerprint sensor to be moved to the back – below the duo-camera module which will likely be centered on the back of the phone.

We also don’t have any details regarding the phone’s launch. Last year, the HTC U11 was unveiled in mid-May, so we’re expecting a similar launch schedule for the HTC U12. That means we should be hearing a lot more about the HTC U12 over the next 5-6 weeks.

  1. Sounds promising, if this is what HTC comes out with in Q2 then it may give GS9 a run for the money. I would like to see them have TV commercials and perhaps a few YouTube commercial ads.

They need to really step up …
