As of today, Chialin Chang, President of HTC’s Smartphone and Connected Devices Business is no longer with the company. The announcement from HTC states that Chang left the company on his own as a personal career decision, it’s possible that he was forced out of his position in an effort to bring in new leadership that will change the direction of HTC’s smartphone business.
The company did succeed in releasing a well respected flagship device last year with the HTC U11, but sales of the device never reached the company’s expectations. The main culprit was likely the lack of support by carrier partners in the US and Europe, but a dwindling marketing budget had a lot to do with it as well.
As of now, HTC has not announced a replacement for Chialin Chang, leaving his responsibilities to fall on the shoulders of Cher Wang for now. Hopefully, the position won’t be empty for long, but HTC should take a hard look at who they want to lead their Smartphone and Connected Devices business since it is still the company’s main business.
Curious … Most Curious
HTC definitely needs to make some changes. The U11 and U11+ should have both been available to purchase in the States on all carries but, someone dropped the ball.
I’m expecting big things from HTC hopefully with their next device.
