After releasing the Android Oreo update for the Taiwanese variant of the HTC U11 on November 15, HTC is continuing the Android 8.0 rollout to unlocked versions of the phone which were purchased in the US.
While a lot of manufacturers are giving a limited number of their customers restricted access to beta builds of Android Oreo for their flagship devices, we’re glad to see that HTC is ahead of the game, pushing the real update out to as many HTC U11 phones as fast as they can.
The 1.36GB Android Oreo update will give the HTC U11 all the new features that Google’s built into the OS in addition to HTC’s latest version of Sense and the new Edge launcher for Edge Sense. Unfortunately, the settings menu hasn’t been rearranged to match that of the HTC U11+, but there’s really no reason to change that since it would simply cause confusion for those who have been using the phone for half a year already.
If you live in Europe or the US, you can try to trigger the update manually by going to Settings > About > Software updates > Check Now to ping HTC’s servers. Once you’ve installed the update on your phone, leave us a comment and let us know which new features you enjoy the most.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. The Oreo OS update will be available for download on the HTC u11 unlocked version starting on Monday! Enjoy!
