HTC U11+ will likely cost $850 in the US

Before we get started, we’d like to point out that HTC has yet to officially unveiled the HTC U11+ and its price. However, we do have solid information which suggests that the phone will sell for $850. We’re basing this assumption on the fact that the phone’s price in Swiss Francs was mentioned in the of the U11+ which hit the web yesterday afternoon.

The official price which was referenced was 850 CHF for an unlocked HTC U11+ in Switzerland. Now, we all know that we simply can’t take the $850 CHF and convert it to USD and call it a day since the $850 CHF price tag includes an 8% VAT and different countries have different import taxes which are charged for smartphones.

That being said, we took a look at HTC Switzerland’s website and found that the HTC U11 is selling for 649 CHF. Referencing that with HTC’s $649 sticker price for the U11 in the US and using the 1:1 exchange rate the US dollar has with the Swiss Franc, it’s pretty easy to see that the HTC U11+ will sell for $850 in the US.

Now, there’s still a chance that HTC will sell the phone for a little less, but it’s doubtful that we’ll see the U11+ listed with a sticker price lower than $799 at launch. We may get a $50 pre-order discount like we did with the HTC U11, but that’s only if we’re lucky.

Do you think the 6-inch edge-to-edge display, larger battery, new Edge Sense features and improved water resistance of the HTC U11+ are worth a $200 premium over the HTC U11? Share your thought in the comments.

  1. Hey Nick,
I’ve seen the video and read the blogs – will I dump my current 64Gb U11 in amazing silver?
Let’s see the positives of the U11+:

    1. Bigger display (or is it narrower than the U11?)

    2. New sense UI – looks great (but the U11 is being upgraded to Oreo so won’t it be included too?)

    3. Wireless charging (had a number of wireless charging phones and after the initial fascination found I preferred to plug it in. Also wireless charging is generally slower)

    Negatives:
    1. 18:9 form factor – there isn’t much out there to utilise this yet – maybe by the time the U12 or 13 are launched it will be useful.

2.Rear mounted fingerprint reader(FPR). Have owned several devices with the FPR on the side or back and it is not as intuitive to use as the front mounted FPR. (At least it is better placed than on the S8 & S8+!)

    3. Where are the boomsound speakers? If they are positioned like the U11 it could be a problem (I find my finger tends to block (obstruct) the lower speaker.)

I am actually buying a new phone in the next few weeks and to be honest I’ve not seen anything to sway my current choice: a Solar Red 128Gb dual SIM U11. I am happy with my 64Gb U11 but really want dual SIM because of the advantages I get running 2 SIM cards (one contract & one pay-as-you-go)
