It seems like HTC’s close tie to Google is paying off – at least when it comes to rolling out new versions of Android to its phones. Following the release of Android Oreo to the unlocked HTC U11 in the US, HTC has now started pushing out the same update to the new HTC U11 life which launched in the US at the beginning of the month. For now, the update is only available for the unlocked version which is sold through HTC’s website, but the T-Mobile variant should be receiving the update soon as well.
More importantly, HTC kept its promise that it would deliver the Android 8.0 update to the phone within 30 days of launch.
With Android Oreo on board, the HTC U11 life gains pretty much all the features that were introduced on the HTC U11+. There’s HTC’s updated sense launcher with a much cleaner aesthetic, the Edge Launcher which can be pulled up by squeezing the phone and all the usual Android Oreo goodies like picture-in-picture mode for video and Google Maps, app notification docs, enhanced media notifications and much more. The video below will give you an idea of what to expect.
If you happen to own the HTC U11 life and haven’t yet received the update notification on your device, go to Settings > About > Software updates > Check Now to trigger the update manually.
