After trading markets closed in Taiwan today, HTC announced a halt to trading of its company’s shares. HTC has not given any indication as to why trading of the company’s stock will not be allowed tomorrow (or possibly the following day), but there’s a good chance that HTC is getting ready to announce that it is selling its smartphone manufacturing business to Google.
A week ago, a report claimed that Google and HTC were finalizing a deal which would result in Google acquisition of HTC’s smartphone business. It’s not clear if Google would be buying the HTC brand or just HTC’s smartphone manufacturing unit along with its design and research and development team. While there’s been a lot of talk about the HTC Vive this past year, it sounds like Google is not interested in HTC’s VR technology.
HTC has received multiple inquiries from the press regarding the trading freeze that it issues an official response to the “HTC might announce the sale to Google” speculation on its financial site with a standard “HTC does not comment on market rumor or speculation.”
Is this the end of HTC or the beginning of the comeback that we’ve all been waiting for?

I feel it’s the end but I hope not and Google will keep htc smartphone brand and let them design phones along with pixel line. Shame couse I had many htc devices and I like them a lot. The first was diamond followed by desire, one x+, one, one m9, 10 and now u11. The company made so many stupid decisions and I can only wonder why. Like recently cutting out headphone jack what I also don’t like about u11. What do they think? There are a lot of people who say that it’s a deal breaker so why do this when your sales keep falling down? I guess we will never know.
So you might have to change the name of the blog to GoogSource, no?
Changes might need to be made to the site. We’ll have to see how things turn out.
