The upcoming Pixel 2 unveiling has been rumored for October 5th. It looks like the rumors were close, but they appear to have missed the mark by one day. A new Google billboard has gone up in Boston, telling viewers to “Ask more of your phone”. There’s no direct or indirect reference to the Pixel 2, but the fact that October 4th is listed at the bottom of the billboard is pretty telling.
The October 4th date is actually the same day that the Pixel was unveiled last year.
With the launch of the new Pixel right around the corner, there is one big question that needs to be answered: what will be the fate of HTC? If Google and HTC are working on a deal, the launch of the Pixel 2 may be the perfect time to make a public announcement that Google is buying HTC’s smartphone business. Sure, it would undermine the launch of the phone itself, but it would also solidify Google’s place within the market since it would own the design, engineering and manufacturing process of its phones.
