[VIDEO] See if the Pixel can survive 30 minutes of water submersion

Kids, don’t try this at home. A brave Pixel owner has posted a video on YouTube in which he tests out the Pixel’s water resistance by placing it in a puddle, spraying it and ultimately submerging the phone in a bowl of water for 30 minutes. The HTC-built Pixel only has a water and dust resistance rating of IP53, but that doesn’t mean that the phone will die is it’s exposed to anything more than “water falling as a spray at any angle up to 60° from the vertical shall.”

As the video shows, the Pixel manages to survive all the tests without any immediate damage. To be clear, we’ve not advocating that you take the Pixel in the water when you go for a swim or use it in the shower. The safest place for your Pixel is always someplace dry. The good news is that your Pixel has a good chance of surviving if it gets wet in the rain or you accidentally spill a drink on it.

Are you disappointed that the Pixel doesn’t have the same water and dust resistance rating at the iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 edge?
