Nexus Sailfish processor and display details revealed by leaked build.prop

This week is getting off to a good start with a new leak regarding the Nexus Sailfish. Evan Blass has managed to get ahold of a ROM dump from the upcoming phone. He hasn’t released the full ROM to the public, but he did share the build.prop, giving us a little more insight into the components that are used by the phone. Specifically, the build.prop file lists the Nexus Sailfish as having an MSM8996 chip. For those who don’t recall, the MSM8996 is the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC that’s used in the HTC 10. The file also mentions that the LCD display used by the phone features a pixel density of 420 pixels per inch. That information a one-to-one match with previous leaks, but it’s within the same ballpark, confirming that the Nexus Sailfish will sport a 1080p HD display that’s roughly 5-inches.

Blass has not given any indication that he will be sharing any additional information from the Nexus Sailfish ROM dump, but we imagine he will be teasing us with little bits and pieces over the next few days. What we’re interested in knowing is if the Android Nougat build from the Nexus Sailfish includes additional functionality that we haven’t seen on the developer preview builds that have been available for current Nexus devices. During an interview on Recode, Google’s Sundar Pichai hinted that the company’s upcoming Nexus device may have software features which would differentiate them from other devices on the market. As of now, we still do not know what those features may be.

You’ll see us thoughtfully add more features on top of Android on Nexus phones.

As soon as we know more, we’ll be sure to let you know. What type of software features do you think Google plans to add to its Nexus devices?
