We’d like to start things off by pointing out that monthly and quarterly revenue figured can be interpreted in many different ways. While most news outlets are reporting that HTC has another bad month, month-over-month revenue for May at HTC was up 17.4%, marking the second month in a row that HTC has seen a double-digit increase.
May’s NT$6.75 billion in revenue is the highest number HTC has posted in 6 months, but it’s still 37.4% lower than what HTC managed to pull in during May of 2015 following the launch of the HTC One M9. The difference is that the first batch of HTC Vive sales should be included in May’s numbers. No one was expecting the Vive to be a runaway success, but we were hoping HTC’s revenue would have at least hit NT$8 billion for the month.
From what we’ve seen, the HTC 10 is a much better phone than the HTC One M9 was, but there’s no guarantee that it will sell better than its predecessor. AT&T is not selling the phone in the US, removing it as an option for the millions of AT&T customers who purchase their smartphones from the service provider.
