Does anyone recall the rumor that HTC was going to launch its first smartwatch around the same time that the HTC 10 made its debut? With all the positive buzz around the HTC 10, it’s likely that you simply forgot. As you know, HTC has not yet announced the smartwatch, but @evleaks has taken to Twitter to inform us that the launch of the HTC smartwatch has been bumped back from late April to June 6.
Details about the HTC smartwatch is still light, but we are expecting HTC to introduce an Android Wear device which should be competitive with what LG, Huawei and Motorola currently offer. The delay of the HTC smartwatch launch may be a good thing as the Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC was introduced in mid-February. The new chip was developed specifically for wearables to offer improved performance and battery life. Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon Wear 2100 consumes 25 percent less power than the Snapdragon 400 while being 30% smaller.
“Qualcomm Technologies is a technology leader in the wearables space with its breadth of product offerings including the Snapdragon™ 400 processor, which powers the vast majority of current Android Wear™ smartwatches,” said Raj Talluri, senior vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “With the introduction of the Snapdragon Wear platform and Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC, Qualcomm Technologies is well-positioned to extend its progress in wearables technology by enabling sleek designs, long battery life, smart sensing, and always- connected experiences in the next generation of wearable devices. These benefits are expected to have widespread appeal across the mobile, fashion and sports ecosystems in the wearables space.”
FYI, this has been pushed to the week of June 6th. #htcwearablehttps://t.co/Ei1lT4aWoc
