HTC’s partner, Valve recently announced they have begun shipping the Vive Pre to VR developers. Many of the recipients were already working with original Vive dev ktis or were registered with Valve and HTC as developers.
Less than a year from the original announcement, a second generation developer kit has started making its way into the hands of the life-breathers, known as developers. They are already pouring their sweat and tears into production as they try to grab a piece of the virtual reality pie and make a name for themselves as the future of VR is looking pretty good at this point.
Changes with the HTC Vive Pre over the original head mounter display (HMD) includes finessed hardware that is slimmer and more polished like a consumer ready product, better head straps for increased comfort, reinforced area around the HMD connectors, refreshed base stations for room scaling, an outward facing camera on the front of the HMD with lots of possibilities, and more.
There’s supposed to be somewhere around 6000-7000 of these Vive Pre headsets already produced for developers so hopefully there’s enough to go around and reach all the eager devs who want to enter the virtual reality development.
Take a look at a roundup of the HTC Vive Pre in action during the largest consumer electronics show, CES 2016 in Las Vegas early January.
Does anyone have a game they are really looking forward to playing in virtual reality? Is your computer ready for the Vive?
