Official pre-orders for HTC’s ultimate virtual reality experience isn’t expected this month. In fact, HTC’s CEO, Cher Wang said to look for a February 29th announcement and we still don’t know how much the Vive will cost. So it’s interesting to find a listing on eBay, that closes in six days, to pre-order the HTC Vive. More surprisingly is the high price tag of US$1200!
HTC has put a lot of money and effort into developing the HTC Vive that’s for sure. At the end of last month, HTC could have put the Vive Pre on the market with 7,000 units ready to ship, but instead it dubbed the device a second generation developer kit. Doing so gives HTC and Valve more time to market the Vive as well as reach more developers and partners to grow the virtual reality ecosystem on Valve’s content delivery platform.
The eBay listing seems suspicious and we’re not sure why someone would take the chance and bid $1200 on a very early pre-order when you will have as much of a chance to pre-order the Vive for yourself for the real price tag which we hope will be under $1000.
