The biggest truck tour of the year is headed to Las Vegas next week. One of the most well-known electronics shows, CES also kicks off next week and HTC will be there to give HTC Vive demos to as many people as they can.
The best part about the upcoming demo is that everyone will get to use the second generation developer kit, known as the HTC Vive DK2. The headset and controllers will have a refined look. The headset has a re-positioned camera and all the sensors are now recessed behind a protective cover. The controllers don’t look as funky as they early models did with a big hexagon shaped topper.
This version of hardware is what would have been released to consumers had HTC caved to delivering the Vive according to the deadline they tried to meet. That’s sounds bad and was initially hard to swallow, but the good news is that HTC and Valve made a groundbreaking discovery that couldn’t be passed up and released in a later version.
The team decided to pull back the launch so this new discovery could be included in the final version of Vive. This is great for early adopters who won’t feel gypped for buying the first version only to have their Vive system feel antiqued 6 months or so down the road.
WHEN & WHERE:
The Vive truck tour will be set up in Las Vegas at 365 Convention Center Drive from 6-9 January from 10am-8pm each day. A normal Vive truck has 3 demo spaces and HTC is promising to have 8 spaces available for a mixture of room scale and seated demos so there might be two or more truck onsite. Show up early to get on the list for a demo. Trust me, if you don’t the line will be too long and you’ll risk missing an opportunity to try the best VR experience of 2016.
GAMES TO DEMO:
HTC has confirmed Elite: Dangerous Horizons will be available for demo next week. At this point the team has expanded the demos to an array of experiences so if you have a specific game play you’d like to try I wouldn’t hesitate to ask your guide when you get in the demo room. See if they have titles like:
- WEVR – BLU
- Opposable Games – Tilt Brush
- Charm Games – Form
- Bossa Studios – Surgeon Simulator
- Vertigo Games – Arizona Sunshine
- Frontier Developments – Elite: Dangerous Horizon
- Owlchemy Labs – Job Simulator
- Zero Transform – Proton Pulse
- Alientrap – Modbox & City Destruction
- Paranormal Activity
- Psytec Games – Crystal Rift & Windlands
- Stress Level Zero – Hover Junkies
- Phaser Lock Interactive – Final Approach
- AND MANY MORE TITLES!
We are excited to see some raw pictures of the new developer kit so please share a link to your photos if you attend CES and get to try HTC Vive.
