If you haven’t heard, Android 6.0 is the latest and greatest build of Android. Affectionately known as Android Marshmallow, the new build of Android has quite a few improvements over last year’s Lollipop builds, but most of them are hidden away.
The question most of you probably want answered is when your HTC phone will be updated to Android Marshmallow. If you own the HTC One A9, you’re already running Android 6.0, but all other HTC devices will need a unique software build developed by HTC’s software engineer team in order to get a taste of the latest Android flavor. HTC has officially announced that the HTC One M8, HTC One M9 and 10 other HTC devices would be updated to Android Marshmallow, but they we do not know when those updates are scheduled to be release – until now.
HTC’s leaked Android 6.0 update roadmap
@LlabTooFeR has shared roadmap which shows what HTC’s Android 6.0 update plan currently looks like. As you might have already guessed, the HTC One M7 will not receive any new Android updates since it is nearly three years old. However, the list does show that the most notable HTC devices from the past two years will be updated to Android Marshmallow. In fact, the HTC One M9 has an update planned for December 2015 and Android 6.0.1 planned for Q1 of 2016.
We’d like to point out that the leaked list from @LlabTooFeR will likely change over time and it certainly does not include every HTC device that HTC is planning to update to Android 6.0. That being said, if you’re phone was released more than 24 months ago, there’s a 99.9% chance that it will not be updated to Android Marshmallow. If you’re still holding on to your HTC One M7, we recommend you buy HTC’s new flagship when it hits the market this coming spring.
