HTC theme of the week: Heisenberg

Welcome to the HTC theme of the week, a series where I spotlight a theme I’ve found in the HTC Theme app, from a user I follow, a recommended theme, or eventually ones I’ve made myself. The Themes app runs on phones with HTC Sense 6 or higher and has a huge gallery of user contributed designs with custom wallpapers, icons, sounds and more.

Here’s another glorious theme I found while browsing the gallery. This week’s theme is called Heisenberg. Does the guy on the background look familiar? Well, if you’re a fan of the late TV show called Breaking Bad then you might know this is the main character and criminal mastermind.

Heisenberg Theme Pros

The Heisenberg Theme is pretty cool! With a mustard yellow background and bright blue colored numbers on the HTC Clock and Weather icons. The designer says the blue color closely matches the color of the bags of drugs the main duo produced in the TV show. I love that this theme has a few different wallpapers and that the caller window has a Heisenberg head in it as well.

The icons… Each icon has a green square around it that resembles the lettering used in the show. Each letter looks like an item from the periodic table and the best part is that every icon gets the same treatment. Every icon on your phone gets to look as cool as the other!

Heisenberg even comes with a unique notification, alarm, and ringtone! This is a bonus item that not many designers include and in my opinion completes a theme. Even if the sounds are unappealing to the user the designer still gets points for the effort.

Heisenberg Theme Cons

Heisenberg is a nearly perfect theme by my criteria, but even still there are a couple of things that I have picked apart.

The first thing is the audio clips. The notification was a loud, dingy alert that was too long due to the lack of subtlety. I personally felt the need to change all three audio clips.

Recently, I was browsing the content created by the HTC Creative Labs and there was a ton of uploaded fonts. There were so many that I think every custom theme should have one so I’m marking it as a con of the Heisenberg theme.

About the theme designer

This week’s theme was designed by HTCNerd Yoda. This designer has 16 themes available for download and specializes in app icon overlays. Heisenberg was released in late November and has only been downloaded 2000 times. Let’s show this theme some love by downloading and rating it today.

About my theme review criteria

When selecting themes to review in this column I look for themes that are complete and look like they have a lot to offer.

So what does a complete theme look like?

A complete theme has a collection of wallpapers, as many custom app icons as possible with the rest styled and/or textured, custom weather and clock icons, custom soft keys, modified keyboard, custom fonts, and unique sounds.

That’s a lot of features, but to me, that encompasses a theme with all the bells and whistles. Not all themes I review hit all the marks, but they at least have several of the items mentioned above. I do this in an effort to show you the creativity of the designers uploading to the HTC Theme app.

  • After you click on the link make sure you are *logged in at the top right and then tap the bookmark button near the middle of the screen. Then, on your phone open the Themes app and scroll to the right until you get to “MY BOOKMARKS” and HTC Red should be listed in there. *Make sure you log into the website using the same Google account used on your phone.
  • If this doesn’t work for you, try searching for it in the Themes app: There is a search bar in the Themes app, tap the 3 stacked lines in the top left. Search will be in the grey bar across the top.
