Since the introduction of the UltraPixel camera sensor on the HTC One (M7), many have wondered if HTC made the right decision by increasing the pixel size versus increasing the pixel count. The UltraPixel sensor does capture great low-light pictures, but the low resolution means there’s less data to work with which is often made even worse by HTC’s image compression algorithms. HTC has been testing out a few 13 megapixel sensors this year (most of which have not been that great) and the company has now released a variant of the One (M8) named the HTC One (M8 EYE) in a few countries in Asia with one of these sensors.
We have not had a chance to use the HTC One (M8 EYE) ourselves, but Unleash the Phones has and has taken it upon themselves to compare the camera of the One (M8) and One (M8 EYE). We’ve included a few sample pictures below, but we encourage you to hit the source link for a better look at how the two cameras compare.

The ultrapixels definitely have the advantage in low-light situations, but the Eye has it for pretty much anything else. The color distortion on the M8 ultrapixel is really emphasized by these comparison shots.
I like ultrapixel better, it’s wider angle. You don’t even get the bright light on the left in the field, in the automobile night shot. Check the borders of both photos.
would be great to just have ultrapixel with 8 or 12 mpixel…or..’?
I think that the Ultra pixel has ‘truer’ looking colours, the other camera seems to go for low-light resolution rather than image truth.
I think the Eye version is better. Except low light, which is not SO different, it would be better have 13MP instead of 4UP. I hope next year we have a 13+MP with duo sensor.
For me UltraPixel looks better, and Here those photos are taken by my HTC One M8,and the photos looks amazing.
