The Android 4.4.3 update which started rolling out to the Unlocked and Developer Editions of the HTC One (M8) in the US last week is now available for unlocked versions of the phone in Europe. So far, we have been able to confirm that the update has been released in Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Macedonia, Germany and France, but we expect more countries to be added to list in the coming hours. If you purchased your HTC One (M8) though a service provider, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer for the update.
The Android 4.4.3 update is actually a lot more than what the name implies. Rather than releasing the 4.4.3 update and then pushing out a separate 4.4.4 update, HTC’s software engineers were able to fold in the security fixes from 4.4.4 into the One (M8)’s 4.4.3 code.
“We’re pleased to let owners of the unlocked HTC One (M8) know Android 4.4.3 is rolling out to their devices now! Due to the timing of this update and the coming release of Android “L,” we have incorporated the security fixes from Android 4.4.4 into 4.4.3 instead of releasing two separate updates. Carrier versions of HTC One (M8) around the world will receive the 4.4.3 update in the coming weeks. We hope you enjoy using the new software!”
The Android L update from Google still doesn’t have an official release date, but we suspect HTC will be one of the first to release the update to their devices once the code is made official.
