Rumors and speculation be damned; the HTC One mini 2 is now official! As it turns out, most of the details which were leaked over the past few most were spot on. The HTC One mini 2 features the same design as the One (M8) with a few subtle tweaks (only one camera on the back, no IR blaster on the top, slightly different BoomSound speaker grills and a thin polycarbonate band that runs along the edges of the phone). While the phone has the same curves at the new One (M8), the handset’s size and rear camera setup are practically identical to last year’s flagship HTC One.
On the inside, the HTC One mini 2 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 at 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16GB of on board storage, microSD card support up to 128GB, a 4.5-inch 720p display, 13 megapixel, BSI sensor with f/2.2 lens on the back, 5MP, BSI sensor on the front, BoomSound stereo speakers with dedicated amps and a 2,100 mAh battery. The HTC one mini 2 is running on Android 4.4 with Sense 6, but the device does not come with Motion Gestures, Zoe image capture (Zoe video highlights are still available) and there are no plans to support a DotView case either.
HTC’s planning to release the HTC One mini 2 in Amber Gold, Glacial Silver, and Gunmetal Gray across Europe and Asia in June, but we suspect a few US service providers will be offer the phone to their customers sometime this summer. Several retailers in the UK are listing pre-orders of the HTC One mini 2 for £399.99 ($669 USD), while other retailers across Europe list the phone for €449.99 ($615 USD). The price may seem a bit steep, but you have to consider that the HTC One (M8) is currently selling for £549.99 ($920 USD) in the UK.
