Gold plated HTC one (M8) heading to the Middle East

Described by Nikitas Glykas, executive director, HTC MEA as a “premium product, such as an expensive watch or a fine piece of jewelry,” the gold plated HTC One (M8) will be making its way to select markets in the Middle East on Friday, April 4. The price of the gold plated phone is set at Dhs 2,750 in the UAE and SAR 2,800 in Saudi Arabia (roughly $750 USD) which only comes in at a $100 premium over the sticker price for the standard colors available in the US and European markets.

Those interested in a more premium product should hold off a little longer as HTC is planning to deliver a “real gold” HTC One (M8) to the region in late April or early May. Pricing for the second gold variant of the phone isn’t being revealed yet, but president of HTC EMEA, Phil Blair has revealed that “it will be very expensive.”

We don’t understand what the appeal of a gold plated or “real gold” phone is – but since we don’t have excessive cash just lying around, we doubt we’re HTC’s target market for these products. If you had a few million extra dollars just sitting in your bank account, would you be willing to part with one to two thousand dollars in pocket change for a “real gold” phone?

  1. Thats crazy. Even if i did have money to burn like that, I’d never buy a golden phone. Not a real gold one. That just reeks of pretentiousness. No thanks.

  2. Haha, it’s cheaper than the normal m8 in Sweden. Here the M8 is between 850 -900 $…
