We don’t know how successful the 2013 HTC One Unlocked and Developer editions were, but the company now selling the HTC One (M8) directly to consumers through its website. The Developer Edition is available in Gunmetal Gray and Amber Gold but if you go with the Unlocked model you get the Glacial Silver as well. both phones come with 32GB of internal storage, so the only real difference between them is the unlocked bootloader on the Developer Edition. Priced at $649.99, the Unlocked HTC One (M8) and Developer Edition HTC One (M8) can be purchased today, but HTC will not be shipping the devices for another week or two. An exact date is not listed on HTC’s website at this time, but it will probably concide with the broader retail launch of the new phone which is expected during the second week of April.
For those who love the design of the new HTC One, but don’t like dealing with HTC Sense, the HTC One (M8) Google Play edition can also be purchased for $699.99. We’re not exactly sure why Google is charging more for the phone since it is technically inferior to the new HTC One running Sense 6.0. Like the Unlocked and Developer editions of the HTC One (M8), the Google Play edition isn’t ready to be shipped out quite yet. The listing on Google Play shows the device is scheduled to leave Google’s warhouse in 2-3 weeks.
Will you be buying a variant of the HTC one (M8) directly from HTC of Google? We’re curious to know if you purchased the Unlocked, Developer or Google Play edition of the 2013 HTC One.

I bought the T-Mobile version of the 2013 HTC One, but then unlocked it and did a full conversion to GPE, so it’s effectively GPE. It was cheaper to do it that way and it supported more radio bands than the official GPE. It looks like it might be cheaper this time, too.
Will the GPE get quicker updates, also will all three special editions have the proper European LTE radios on board ??
The GPE get the latest updates like a week after the nexus phone’s. I’m not sure about the LTE stuff in Europe though.
No, none of these devices will have proper LTE support for Europe. Android updates on the GPe edition typically come two weeks after the first Nexus device is updated, but there’s no guarantee or strict turnaround policy. HTC has been very good about updating the Unlocked and Developer Edition devices too. Personally, I prefer the Sense devices since they offer a richer user experience which is truly optimized for the hardware.
Developer edition for sure!
definitely not gpe
