For those who don’t follow @htcusa on Twitter, we’d like to bring you up to speed on a few of their latest tweets and an announcement that will be coming on 2/18. Things got started a Valentine’s Day when @htcusa tweeted a picture of two broken HTC Ones with the following message: “If only broken hearts were this easy to fix. Details 2/18.” A few other Tweets along the same line have surfaced since, culminating in a short video clip which was posted tonight, telling us to “GO BIG! WE’VE GOT YOUR BACK.”
It’s easy to assume that HTC USA is going to announce a handset protection or replacement program on 2/18. HTC’s current limited warranty program does cover phones for a full year, but issues like broken screen, scratches, dent or water damage are typically very expensive, out-of-pocket expenses for handset owners. Since HTC’s US online store is powered by Best Buy, we have a feeling we may see a re-branded Geek Squad Protection Plan which includes Accidental Damage from Handling. If that’s the case, we’re hoping it’s a better deal than the $9.99/month sticker price from Best Buy.
