Official: HTC One X and One X+ reach end of file status – no more updates planned beyond 4.2.2

The good news from earlier today trumped by an announcement from HTC regarding the Android update status of the HTC One X and the HTC One X+. While these devices are less than 24 months old, HTC will not update either of the devices to Android 4.3 or higher. We checked with HTC and they have confirmed that this applies to all versions of the HTC one X and One X+ (both Tegra 3 and Snapdragon S4 powered devices). The Android 4.2.2 build with HTC Sense 5 which was pushed out several months back will be the last Android version update that these devices will receive.

The most disappointing factor in all of this is that HTC has confirmed that the HTC EVO 4G LTE will be updated to Android 4.3 in February. While the HTC one X and EVO 4G LTE look very different, the internals of the two devices are nearly identical.

“We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.”

Since HTC’s 2013 flagship lineup was not as fragmented as it was in 2012, we’re hoping the HTC One will be treated a lot better than the HTC One X has been. How many more updates do you think the HTC One will receive before HTC decides to kick it to the curb.
