Answers to your HTC One max questions

Last week we asked for your HTC One max questions. Unsurprisingly, most of you had questions about the fingerprint scanner and the handset’s size. We have answers to the best questions, but we’ll be exploring he handset in a lot more detail for our full review. If you have any additional HTC One max questions, feel free to post them in the comments below.

Q: How responsive is the fingerprint scanner? I read in one of the early reviews somewhere that you need to keep your fingers straight for the phone to scan your finger and that keeping the finger at an angle (the way our fingers naturally are when we hold a phone) would not work. Is that correct?
A: The fingerprint scanner works well, but it does take a bit to get used to. You can scan your finger any way you want, but you need to make sure that your finger glides over the scanner the same way every single time. On day one, my fingerprint scanner success rate was about 30%. Now that I’ve used it for four days, my success rate is probably in the 70-80% range.

Q: How is the sound quality over headphones when compared to the HTC One.
A: Though the HTC One max does not come with Beats Audio, the audio quality between the phones is comparable.

Q: What are the three deals on the backside that look like contact points or maybe LEDs?
A: The three pins on the back of the HTC One max are pogo pin connectors which allow the One max to connect with the handset’s power flip case or any other compatible accessory.

Q: When the heck is HTC going to put Windows Phone on this and bring it to Sprint?!
A: HTC isn’t done with Windows Phone yet, but it’s doubtful that we’ll see anything from HTC the size of the One max running Windows Phone any time soon.

Q: What do you think about the camera without OIS?
A: Honestly, the camera on the One max is great, but the lack of optical image stabilization (OIS) is noticeable when lighting conditions are not optimal. Fortunately, Zoe or bust mode help by capturing multiple images, giving you the ability to sort through your images and pick the best one.

Q: Does the One max have a pen like the Samsung Galaxy Note?
A: Unfortunately, the HTC One max does not have an active pen. HTC does have an official capacitive pen which can be used with the HTC One max (or any other HTC device), but there isn’t really much difference between using the capacitive pen or your finger.

Q: Is the One max as bog as it looks?
A: Yes, yes it is. I’ve been a fan of larger phones since the EVO 4G, but the One max is simply too large. The device is hard to hold and it extremely uncomfortable when placed in a pocket.

  1. Nick, I recently purchased an One Max. I hesistated a bit because of the speed and things the One Max lacked, but you know you wouldn’t notice anything of that if you didn’t know.
Besides that, I have a few more questions. Hopefully you have time to answer them.
    1. How to get rid of the words below the apps on the homescreens?
    2. How long does it take for YOU to fully charge the battery because mine taks ages.

    Thx

    Regards,
    Daryl.

  2. I have been an HTC fan since they were making palm phones.Recently I switched over to a Nokia Lumia 1020 and love it. I was wondering how the Max stacks up to the 1520

  3. We NEED High End Windows Phones here on Sprint!
All of the Other Carriers are getting Many Windows Phones to choose from. WHY?!
Why is Sprint almost Always the Last one to get Anything Good to Choose from?!
This Always Last Trend, NEEDS TO STOP!!!!!
Even if We All take Turns getting the Feature Phones on Each of the OS’s. Android, iOS, and Windows.
Every 6 months Alternate. That Would be Fair.

  4. HTC must stick with Android and leave Windows Phone behind. No one uses WM and its always been a “failed” mobile OS. Microsoft is going to ruin Nokia just like everything it graps its hands on.

    1. You are Wrong about Nobody Using Windows Phone.
Everyone is Kicking Windows Phone because of Microsoft Not really getting behind Windows Mobile and Not doing much to fix the Problems while sitting back and watching Apple Kicking their butts in the Mobile Arena because Microsoft was a Lot More Concerned with Windows for the PC Only.
But Now Microsoft has Woken up and had started to put a Lot of Time, Effort, and Money behind Windows Phone.

  5. Thank you for answer to my question.

Yes Microsoft is gone. I updated to 8.1 is slighty better but not as quick as on my HTC One. New laptop etc.
    Wouldnt buy anything from Microsoft.
King is dead and this is beauty about competition. Like Nokia the best in decade and marginal now.

  6. Sorry I cannot agree that Microsoft will go away from phones. Even the $130 windows lumia 521 with 500 mb main memory is smoother than a high end android phone. PLUS android has serious problems with updates, and maybe with security also. HTC definitely should do their dual-boot phone thing, Especially if 1) They get $$$ for doing it…and 2) I can switch back and forth from one to the other, i’d like that!

    1. No apps for Windows phone. Instagram today debut and no full functionality.

Apps top 10 last year on Android and IOS now coming slowly to Windows. Sounds like Blackberry had once and never again.

Its a free market they all do research if its a need/profit they will do phones with Vampires on screen if not still can buy Nokia. Nokia lost game in smartphones and Microsoft overslept play with Smartphones. This is very important argument they didnt catch whats going on. Who buys desctop computers now. Even laptops less use. And they would still do archaic system but Google and Apple moved on.

  7. How many pins has the HTC ONE MAX board connectors?
(The three board connectors, digityzer, display, etc).
    How many pins?
