Looks like Motorola isn’t the only one who thinks consumers should be able to customize the look of their phone to their heart’s content. According to a new leak, HTC and Sprint were playing around with the idea of having a web app which could be used to customize the color of the speaker, accents along with top and bottom panels on a Windows Phone device. The HTC Design Studio would also have allowed custom message engraving on the back with multiple font options.
Unfortunately, the HTC Design Studio idea was scrapped due to its cost and complexity and Sprint asked HTC to build them the HTC 8XT which is a cross between the HTC 8X and the two-toned HTC 8S.
We think the HTC Design Studio concept could be a huge success if done right. The fact that most consumers buy custom cases for their devices to show off their personality proves that people want option. If Motorola’s Moto Maker for the Moto X is successful, we hope HTC find a way to bring HTC Design Studio to life.
