HTC Desire 500 to be unveiled on July 23 in Taiwan

HTC has started sending out invitations to a press event scheduled for July 23. While press event invitation typically don’t reveal what device will be on display, the press event clearly lists the HTC Desire 500 along with a tagline which reads: “Energy of the young, imagination of the boundless.”

The HTC Desire 500 name has surfaced a few times before, but no real details are know about the device. Based on the name alone, we expect the HTC Desire 500 to be a slightly more economical handset that the HTC Desire 600 which sells for roughly $400 and comes equipped with a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 and features a 4.5-inch Super LCD2 display (960 x 540 ), 8-megapixel camera with 720p video capture,  front-facing 1.6-megapixel camera and an 1860 mAh battery.

If HTC an deliver a low-end device with BoomSound, Android 4.2 and a decent camera for around $350 (off contract), they should be able to steal away a bit of market share from Samsung and Huawei.
