Peter Chou: ‘Give us some time and we will stage a comeback’

During HTC’s annual shareholder meetings, Peter Chou reiterated HTC’s commitment to growth. With HTC’s current market share sitting at roughly 4 percent, HTC is determined to enhance its brand recognition and improve customer loyalty as the company regains lost ground from Apple, Sony and other competitors in the smartphone sector.

We managed to maintain a 4-percent global smartphone market share last year and we are determined to do our best to expand the percentage to 10 to 15 percent in the future. Give us some time and we will stage a comeback. We will redouble our efforts this year to further enhance our brand recognition and loyalty around the world.

It’s not clear how long it will take HTC to grown from 4 percent to 10 to 15 percent, but bold marketing moves are certainly needed if HTC wants to compete. Creating amazing devices like the HTC One is only one piece of the puzzle. In order for them to sell, consumers need to know why HTC’s device is better than what Apple and Samsung are currently offering.

Do you think HTC will be able to expand its market share to 15 percent in the coming years?

  1. HTC will be able to expand its market share to 15 percent in the coming years if the marketing is double in advertising more to 100%. Always notice to consumer that HTC have the AWESOME factor product compare to Samsung, Apple and Sony.

If HTC just make a nice design is like a slice of pizza, but if the product focus more to technology future, interm like leading in camera technology and more valuable in battery juicy that’s a good idea. Consumer want a good battery life just once charge for used maybe mo than 1 days with WIFI or 3G.

  2. As long as the increase in marketing does not lead to sacrifices in customerservice (which is one of my strongest points of bying HTC phones) and buildquality I would say they have a chance to reach that goal of 10-15% market share.

  3. What the masses want is the new butterfly over the one.

Premium phones aren’t the road to market share

  4. All they need to do is make phones with crazy long battery lives and everyone will buy it!

  5. How to gain 15% global smartphone market share
Step 1. Next year, make a 4.7″ Butterfly S flagship with 8 UltraPixels camera, 2800Mah battery and removable storage(Up to 64GB).
Step 2. Wait for the money to start rolling in!

  6. According to IDC’s latest quarterly mobile phone tracker report, Samsung and Apple occupies the first two positions in terms of shipments, LG, Huawei, and ZTE each has around 4% of global smartphone market share. HTC also has around 4% of global smartphone market share. I think HTC needs to win over more customers in the remaining quarters of year 2013 to pave a way for its comeback.
