HTC’s Chief Operating Officer steps down as May revenue nearly reaches $1 billion

HTC has reported NT$29 billion ($970 million USD) in revenue for the month of May, a 47% increase over April’s revenue numbers. With one more month still to go to close out the second quarter, HTC’s revenue is already sitting at NT$48.6 billion ($1.62 billion), HTC is within shooting range of its NT$70 billion ($2.73 billion USD) Q2 projections.

With sales of the HTC One surpassing the 5 million unit mark, it’s pretty easy to attribute the bump in revenue to the company’s flagship Android phone. Still, we expect things to look even better in June as HTC ramps up production of the HTC One and preps for the device’s launch on Verizon later this summer.

Unfortunately, news of HTC’s improving revenue numbers comes with another departure of a high-ranking HTC executive. Matthew Costello, Chief Operating Officer at HTC has stepped down, leaving engineering president Fred Liu to fill his position until someone else is brought in to fill the void. An internal HTC email claims Matthew Costello will stay on as an executive adviser for HTC, but it’s becoming very clear that HTC is shaking up its management in an effort to save the company.
