HTC gets a patent for a dual-screen phone

Chances are this is a concept that HTC fans will never see come to life, but never-the-less our favorite mobile manufacturer submitted the paperwork for a patent involving a dual-screen designed, slider smartphone. Do you remember the dual-screen phone from a company called Kyocera? The phone seemed to draw a lot of attention, but it soon lost it’s steam and from what we have seen, support fell off course as well.

The design for this patent looks a little dated in our opinion. The button layout somewhat resembles the five button layout on the world famous HTC HD2, remember the Windows Mobile phone that has been hacked to run just about every operating system out there. Although the wording on the US Patent site is very techie, our source breaks down the design for us.

…the mechanism gracefully moves a hidden second screen into place, tilting the unfolded arrangement to form one united display area…

Development for a special kind of phone like this takes a lot of time and support to make work smoothly and we are content that HTC hasn’t gone down this road. Besides most users that want a slider phone want the under portion to be physical keyboard for typing. Would you be interested in a phone with two screens if HTC had actual plans to make one?
