According to SankeiBiz, HTC has been named as a possible buyer of Panasonic’s mobile phone business. Panasonic currently has efforts in place to stabilize the company and refine its product line in an effort to maximize shareholder value. Over the years, Panasonic has dabbled in the mobile phone industry on more than one occasion, but the company has never really produced anything that really resonated with consumers.
At this point, it’s unclear what the benefit to HTC would be. Panasonic isn’t a dominant global consumer electronics brand like Sony, Samsung, LG or even Sharp, but the company does have a strong presence in Japan and several other Asian nations. For all we know, Panasonic may have a treasure trove of intellectual property which could help HTC in its legal struggles against competitors like Samsung and Nokia.

Should we be worried about this? If Panasonic acquires HTC, it would be a whole new game changer – let alone on its current One products.
The rumor indicates HTC would buy Panasonic’s mobile phone business, not the other way around. Essentially, Panasonic would hand over its phone manufacturing capabilities, mobile related intellectually property and mobile naming rights to HTC.
Oh sorry for the misread. If that’s the case, it’s potentially good news.
