After months of leaks, rumors and speculation, it looks like the Facebook phone will finally be unveiled. Last night, Facebook sent out invitations to the press for an event on April 4th with a simple message:
“Come See Our New Home on Android”
The HTC PM33100, aka the HTC Myst, recently made its way through the FCC with support for AT&T’s LTE network. The device is said to feature a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 processor, 4.3-inch 720p display and a 5 megapixel rear camera running on Android 4.1.2. We expect the Facebook phone to be running a custom Android build with deep Facebook app and services integration, but we have an inkling that HTC’s new BlinkFeed home screen feature may be integrated in some fashion.
Obviously, Facebook’s press invitation may have absolutely nothing to do with a phone. Facebook has been working hard to improve the performance of its apps on Android over the past year, so it could be that they are finally read to unveil a whole new app which actually delivers the Facebook experience Android users have been waiting for.
What’s your take? Do you think a Facebook phone would resonate with consumers or would a new Android application make more of an impact?
