Let the rumors begin! HTC has just sent out press invitations to an event to be hosted in New York City on September 19th. The invitation simply reads: “Join HTC to see what’s next” – not giving us any real details as to what we should expect.
HTC has held plenty of press events in NYC, all of which have led to product announcements for U.S. carriers. Since the rumored 10-inch HTC tablet that was spotted a few weeks ago would be a global device, we doubts HTC would want to debut it in North America. There are certainly enough rumors floating around to satisfy everyone. We have the mysterious black Android device, a U.S.-bound HTC Desire X, the LTE enabled HTC 6990LVW Windows Phone 8, the phablet-like HTC 6435LVW with its 5-inch 1794 x 1080 display and quad-core S4 processor, or the highly anticipated HTC One X+ powered by a 1.7 GHz Tegra 3 Plus processor.
While any of those rumored devices could be announced on September 19th, we’ve known for a while that HTC has been planning for a September launch of Windows Phone 8 handsets. With the HTC 8X, HTC 8S and HTC Rio all expected to be unveiled sometime this month, we’d be a bit shocked it they didn’t share at least part of the lime lights at this month’s press event.
We’re honestly hoping for a mixture of Android and Windows Phone 8 powered devices to be shown off, along with a unified front from all major carrier partners in the U.S. market. The one ingredient that’s keeping HTC from regaining its footing in the market is the brand dilution forced upon HTC by the carriers as they dictate to HTC exactly how they want their phones to look like and what they should be named. If HTC can take a stand and force the carriers to play by its rules, we should see a much stronger HTC by early 2013.
