Earlier this month, HTC admitted that certain “restrictions” prevented them from unlocking the bootloader on the AT&T HTC One X. Since the AT&T HTC One X is identical to the international HTC One XL (which can be unlocked with HTC’s official bootloader unlocking tool), the “restrictions” HTC was most likely referring to is AT&T.
Fortunately, the Android development community has found a way to circumvent the security measures put in place by HTC and AT&T and have come up with a simple fix to unlock the bootloader on the AT&T HTC One X. To unlock the bootloader on the HTC One X, simply trick the phone into thinking it’s Canadian. The HTC One XL on Rogers is identical to the AT&T version, except for one details – it features an unlocked bootloader.
XDA member grankin01 tried his luck with a little hex editing and changed a reference within the handset’s code from CWS_001 to ROGER001 which eventually allowed him to use HTC’s bootloader unlock tool.
