We’re not exactly sure how we missed this one, but HTC and AT&T dropped a clue about the HTC Vivid’s Android 4.0 update when they announced the HTC One X last week. The reference to the Vivid was hidden inside a section of the press release which was talking about the enhanced sound experience that will be available on the HTC One X.
Exact details about the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Vivid are not given, but HTC does mention that the update (which will include Beats by Dr. Dre audio profiles) will be available in the “coming weeks.” Since this announcement is already a week old, the Ice Cream Sandwich update could be a lot closer than we think.
As exciting as this may be, let’s not forget that HTC claims that the update for the HTC Vivid will be pushed out after the HTC Sensation is updated in March, so we could still be looking at another 4-5 weeks before the Vivid receives the OTA update from AT&T.
[quote]Additionally, an enhanced audio experience will soon be available to HTC Vivid™ customers in the coming weeks. Sound engineers at Beats Dr. Dre and software engineers at HTC have teamed up to bring an improved audio experience to the HTC Vivid through an upcoming software update that will provide Android 4.0, an updated HTC Sense experience and Beats By Dr. Dre audio profiles. If you own a rooted HTC Vivid and simply can’t wait any longer, you may be interested to learn that an official Android 4.0.3 update with HTC Sense 3.6 for the HTC Vivid recently made its way into the hands of some ROM developers. The update seems stable but does require a new hboot image in order to work. Just remember, flashing ROMs is risky business which should not be taken lightly.
Are any of you thinking about flashing the leaked Android 4.0.3 ROM for the HTC Vivid or will you simply wait things out a few more weeks for the official update?
