J.D. Powers and Associates recently released the first volume of their 2012 biannual smartphone satisfaction survey and HTC is the top Android manufacturer and second overall only behind Apple.
To determine how users rank their experience with their smartphones, J.D. Powers polled 7,080 customers and asked them to assess performance, ease of operation, physical design, and features. The industry average is 774 (max of 1000) and only two manufacturers scored above that mark. Apple posted an 839 and HTC posted a 798. HTC also was one of three companies to improve their customer satisfaction from the January 2011 and June 2011 results.
The new 4G smartphones now available have slightly decreased overall customer satisfaction due to poor battery life. Customers with 4G smartphones gave battery life a 6.1 out of ten which results in an average smartphone score of 6.7. This is a decline of 0.2 from the previous study that was conducted. Smartphone users appear to be content with poor battery life provided there are minimal software malfunctions. Users that experienced a software problem noted a 77 point gap in satisfaction from users who had no software malfunctions.
